In Morocco and Tunisia, there’s the element of Islamic conservatision, and also elements of liberalism, or at least tolerance, like alcohol being easily accessible, and woman dressing in a non-tradional way, especially around northern Tunisia and Morocco around Casablanca.
This conservatism is most apparently relevant to women, because it affects their dress, how much they go in public alone, etc. There’s an idea among Islamic women, that this conservativism is designed to keep them safe, not necessarily to restrict. And from this, you could see liberalism as some kind of predator. A lion. And you see a lot of well-educated women, from wealthier families, who’ve been abroad, where there’s a drive to stick their hand in the lion’s mouth…just a hand…and see how long they can stand keeping it there.
